Quality Assurance & Audit Analyst

Grace McCoy serves as Quality Assurance and Audit Analyst at Phoenix Capital Solutions, responsible for the internal audit function across her assigned loan portfolio. Her role is a critical mechanism for keeping the program operationally honest: she conducts periodic file audits on each assigned loan to verify document completeness and accuracy, tests payment waterfall calculations against the loan servicer, reviews Monthly Servicing Reports and Quarterly Performance Reports before they reach sellers or investors, and identifies procedural gaps and compliance deficiencies before they become systemic problems. Every error caught at the audit stage protects the integrity of the program and the trust of every party who depends on Phoenix Capital's reporting.

Grace brings nearly three decades of accounting, tax, and financial review experience — the entirety of it built in environments where accuracy, compliance, and meticulous documentation are not optional. Most recently she served as Senior Tax Accountant at Mark Berkman & Co. in San Francisco, a cloud-based practice where she prepared and reviewed complex tax returns across high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, C-corporations, S-corporations, and nonprofits; prepared and analyzed financial statements, review reports, and compilation reports; set up accounting systems for clients and provided software training; and researched and wrote up reports on tax notices and regulatory matters. A career spent simultaneously managing the financial reporting obligations of multiple clients in a virtual, documentation-intensive environment is directly analogous to the multi-file audit discipline her Quality Assurance role requires.

Overlapping with her work at Mark Berkman, Grace operated as an independent Senior Tax Accountant and Bookkeeper serving clients remotely, where she prepared and reviewed partnership and corporate tax returns, processed monthly journal entries, managed bi-weekly payroll, and prepared quarterly payroll and sales tax returns across a book of clients. She also served concurrently for over two decades as Bookkeeper at DZ Cook Company, where she managed weekly accounts payable and receivable, posted cash receipts and disbursements, reconciled bank, payroll, and line of credit accounts monthly, prepared financial statements, reconciled fixed assets and general ledger accounts for year-end closing, and assisted the CPA through review and compilation engagements. Managing those obligations simultaneously — across multiple clients, on parallel timelines, to audit-ready standards — reflects exactly the multi-engagement discipline and file management precision her QA role demands.

The deepest chapter of Grace's career was her twenty-year tenure as Senior Tax Accountant at Wallace & Co., CPA in San Francisco, where she prepared and reviewed individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns across every entity type; analyzed financial statements; set up accounting systems and trained client staff; assisted clients with general ledger reconciliation, fixed asset tracking, and quarterly and annual payroll, sales tax, and property tax filings; researched tax matters and produced written analysis; and interacted directly with government agencies on behalf of clients. Two decades of client-facing tax and accounting practice at that breadth — maintaining accuracy across complex financial records under regulatory scrutiny — built the analytical foundation that quality assurance and internal audit work is built on. She began her accounting career at Handler & Lau, where as a Junior Accountant she handled general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions for multiple clients, prepared quarterly and annual tax returns, reconciled bank accounts and fixed assets, and assisted partners in preparing corporate and individual tax returns.

Grace holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from San Francisco State University. Her technical proficiency spans the full range of tax and accounting platforms in active professional use, including UltraTax, Lacerte, QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, ProConnect, and NetSuite — a breadth that reflects genuine adaptability to different client environments and operational systems.

At Phoenix Capital, Grace's career of sustained accuracy, regulatory compliance, and meticulous financial documentation across complex multi-client environments makes her the right professional to serve as the audit function for her assigned loan portfolio. For sellers who depend on correct and complete reporting, for investors whose distributions depend on accurate waterfall calculations, and for the firm's own institutional credibility, her work as Quality Assurance and Audit Analyst is the layer of review that ensures nothing leaves Phoenix Capital without having been verified, tested, and confirmed.
