Jeff Crabb
Executive Director — Underwriting
Jeff Crabb serves as Executive Director of Underwriting at Phoenix Capital Solutions, where he holds executive responsibility for establishing the firm’s credit standards, overseeing all deal underwriting, and ensuring the quality and consistency of every Investor Due Diligence Package the firm produces. His background in community banking leadership makes him one of the most operationally experienced underwriting executives on Phoenix Capital’s founding team.
Jeff’s career has been built across three decades of community banking, from the ground-level origination of commercial loans through the executive oversight of entire credit departments. He most recently served as Chief Credit Officer at ValueBank Texas, a full-service community bank focused on construction and commercial real estate, where he chaired the Loan Committee and oversaw all loan documentation and servicing. That role followed his tenure as Chief Credit Officer at Republic Bank of Arizona in Phoenix, where he assumed the position during a period of formal regulatory agreement and led the bank through the full remediation process—completely rewriting the Loan Policy Manual, establishing a comprehensive procedures framework, and managing problem loan and OREO portfolios through resolution.
Perhaps most illustrative of Jeff’s capabilities is his experience as co-founder, President, and CEO of Bank 1440, a de novo commercial community bank he helped establish in Phoenix in 2007. He participated in the formation of an organizing group of twenty-one individuals, helped lead efforts that raised $22.5 million in initial capital—an Arizona state record at the time—and served as the primary driver of new loan originations and sales leadership in the bank’s early years. Building a regulated financial institution from the ground up requires a comprehensive mastery of credit policy, regulatory compliance, investor relations, and operational execution that few banking professionals ever develop.
Earlier in his career, Jeff served as Market President and Arizona Market Senior Lender at Irwin Union Bank, a full-service commercial bank with operations across ten states. Over five years in that role, he led the Arizona team to generate over $700 million in new loan originations while maintaining loan delinquencies below 1.5%, trained and mentored seven loan originators and three underwriters, and chaired the Arizona market Loan Committee. His ability to produce at that volume while maintaining credit quality is precisely the discipline that Phoenix Capital’s underwriting function requires.
At Phoenix Capital, Jeff applies that depth of experience to building an underwriting process that is consistent, defensible, and calibrated to institutional standards. He develops and enforces the credit policies, approval thresholds, and quality control processes that govern every deal Phoenix processes.
